Tarutuuli Maikola, a truck driver from Eura, was heading towards Siilinjärvi on Viitostie when she noticed a car smoking on the shoulder. Maikola extinguished the fire that had started in the engine compartment with a powder extinguisher, while passersby helped the driver out of the vehicle. Firefighting training in ADR driving license test was proven to be invaluable and saved a life.
Maikola was awarded at the Hero of the Year in Ammattina Sankari gala. Half of the 5,000 euro prize money was donated by charity run by Mieli ry.
